Poker Run 2006By: Joyce Mauro Bridgeport Harley Davidson’s Poker Run benefitting the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation was a smash success with the proof being we raised more money this year than any previous - $3,000 plus! On Sunday, May 21st from early morning when all the volunteers were setting up under the magnificent blue sky, to early afternoon when the clouds rolled in, to the 2pm downpour, nothing could dampened our collective spirits. Between 9:45 and 11 am, close to 100 riders left for a very well mapped out ride of 81.4 miles, winding through Stratford, Shelton, Seymour, Oxford, Southbury, Woodbridge, Derby including 3 designated Poker stops. At the first stop, volunteers set up a photo spot, snapping pictures as the riders went by . Everyone interested could view their picture on the computer back at the dealership and could purchase a cd or print of themselves. Besides generating extra funds for the Burns Camp, this service afforded riders the opportunity to have a professional , commemorative, action photo of their ride. While waiting for all the riders to return, the grill sizzled, the DJ spun tunes, and everyone got a chance to catch up with friends. Then, just as it was time to begin the drawing for our multitude of door prizes, the skies opened up. Nothing was stopping this shindig.. So we moved the party inside -where the Poker hands were tallied, the trophies awarded, the many, many great door prizes were handed out. In the end, the rain made for some great memories.. And the winners are:
